Tropico 4 is in development at Bulgarian studio Haemimont Games and is due out in Q2 2011.

The announcement relates to the PC version, but news on a possible console version "will be made available soon".

Tropico is a construction and management sim that sees the player assume control over a Caribbean island during the Cold War era.

You return as El Presidente, the dictator of the island of Tropico, and it's your job to turn it into a feared superpower.

There are new enemies and allies and new missions across new maps. You can elect ministers into power to help pass your controversial decisions through government.

As with everything these days, there's Facebook and Twitter integration – but only for the PC version.

You can post comments to Twitter straight from the game and have updates automatically go out to your followers.

You can take screenshots and post them on the Tropico 4 Facebook page, and compare your Dictator ranking to that of others on the online leaderboard.

"If you are to triumph over your naysayers you will need to gain as much support from your people as possible. Your decisions will shape the future of your nation, and more importantly, the size of your Swiss bank account," says the official blurb.

Tropico 3 was very good indeed, as readers of our 8/10 review will know.
