EA talks up Kinect/Move potential
But hardware won't hit its stride for years.
EA believes it will be years before developers get the best from Microsoft's Kinect and Sony's Move controller.
"Honestly, I think people are going to try and write the chapter this fall on Move and Natal (sic) and I don't think they're going to have anywhere near enough information to write it," said EA CEO John Riccitiello at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch's Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference in California.
"They both represent really significant promise to the industry. They represent such fundamental differences in the way a consumer interacts with a videogame that it would shock me if we got anywhere near to realising the potential that the platforms have in terms of software delivery.
"I think they're both going to sell their units – there is demand for those units. But what's necessary in 2011 and 2012 is for the software industry to create experiences that fully leverage those different kinds of inputs so that it's fun – really fun – really different and really expands the sector. I don't think that ever happens on a new platform or a new controller initially."
EA hasn't announced any support for Kinect yet but will bring Create to the PS3 in November along with motion control support for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11.
PlayStation Move goes on sale tomorrow, with Microsoft's Kinect following on 10th November. Richard Leadbetter tested Kinect's launch line-up in June.
