GAME to shut another 85 shops

It's all about cost efficiency, apparently.

High street retailer GAME has confirmed plans to close more of its shops over the course of the next three years.

The company's latest financial report (as spotted by MCV) reckons there will be 550 GAME stores in the UK by 2013. At present, there are 635.

That's following the closure earlier this year of 15 stores and 27 concessions. According to chairman Peter Lewis, up to 70 per cent of customers from those outlets have since started buying from other GAME branches, encouraged by a big old marketing campaign.

GAME is also reducing the average lease length for stores from seven years to five years.
