Nintendo: 1 in 3 UK homes has a Wii
Reveals celebrity promotions.
One in three UK households has a Wii, Nintendo has claimed.
The impressive statistic comes courtesy of independent Chart Track data. It worked out the total number of UK Wii sales and compared the figure to the number of households in the UK – 24.9 million according to the Office of National Statistics' 2006 census data.
That means Nintendo's shifted around 8.3 million Wiis in the UK. "Over 11 million" are "enjoying Nintendo DS", the company also boasted.
Nintendo's statistical nuggets come as it revealed a raft of celebs who've signed up to promote Nintendo products this Christmas.
Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Terry Wogan, JLS, Ant and Dec, the Redknapp family, Alexandra Burke, Olly Murs and... Gulp... Jedward, are all a part of the Nintendo UK massive.
So, what, exactly, is Nintendo promoting this Christmas?
Dame Helen Mirren's been assigned to Wii Fit Plus. JLS are promoting Wii Party. Sir Terry Wogan is keeping his brain from turning into mulch with Brain Training on the DS. Jamie and Louise Redknapp are playing New Super Mario Bros (the Super Mario Bros. series is the best-selling of all time, with more than 240 million units sold globally). Louise is also "showing working mums like her how to keep fit in the home".
X-Factor's Alexandra Burke and Olly Murs are playing Dragon Quest IX and New Super Mario Bros. on Nintendo DS. Ant and Dec are doing their thing with Donkey Kong Country Returns on the Wii.
And Jedward are playing Dragon Quest IX. We have nothing more to say about that.
