There are currently no plans for a direct sequel to App Store smash hit Angry Birds, developer Rovio has announced.

According to Pocket Gamer, CEO Peter Vesterbacka discussed future plans for its franchise during a presentation at the Social Gaming Summit in London.

"We are not going to do a sequel. We want to surprise people," he said, before hinting at a new title based around the game's porcine antagonists.

"No one has told the story from the pigs' point of view," he teased.

He also revealed that Rovio was focusing investment on a Facebook game. It won't be Angry Birds as we know it, but it will be set "in the same world".

One thing is for certain though, the game will be appearing on PlayStation Network, WiiWare and Xbox Live Arcade soon, and with new multiplayer modes to boot.

Vesterbacka didn't reveal details of how these would play out, but suggested it would be similar to "old school Worms games".

Alongside all this lot, there's also a film and TV series in production, as announced earlier this year. In case you were uncertain, it's clear that Vesterback has big plans for the franchise. Apparently he intends for "Angry Birds to be bigger than Tetris."

Rovio recently released Angry Birds Halloween, a new expansion for its horribly addictive physics-based puzzler. Eurgamer's Kristan Reed awarded it 7/10.
