The next iteration of Apple's iPad could be on shelves as soon as February 2011, according to inside sources.

DigiTimes reported that a Taiwenese component maker leaked that manufacturer Foxconn Electronics has been told to be ready to ship the new gadget within the next 100 days.

Initial shipments are expected to be between 400,000 and 600,000 units.

According to the sources, Apple originally planned to start mass production in January, but has since pushed it back to allow more time to test the device's firmware.

Both Foxxcon and Apple have declined to comment.

There has been no concrete word on what tweaks Apple are planning for the inevitable next iteration of its phenomenally successful tablet but speculation is pointing towards a front-facing camera, a screen resolution boost and a little bit more RAM.

The original iPad has now sold over seven million units since it launched earlier this year.
