Mortal Kombat reboot out in April

You'll be able to square up to the new back-to-basics Mortal Kombat from April 2011, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has confirmed.

That's as precise as Warner is publicly prepared to be, but fan site FDMK has uncovered an internal listing that suggests 19th April has been pegged for launch day.

Warner also confirmed that the game, available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, will be getting two different special editions. The Kollector's Edition will pack in Sub-Zero and Scorpion figurines, an art book and DLC that adds an exclusive Mortal Kombat Klassic costume skin and avatar costumes.

The Tournament Edition, which will be limited to 20,000 copies, comes with a portable fight stick on top of the same DLC as the Kollector's Edition.

As seems to be standard practice these days, there will be a bunch of store-specific pre-order bonuses too for the US launch.

GameStop offers a Klassic Scorpion Playable Character Skin and the original Scorpion Fatality, Best Buy has a Klassic Sub-Zero Playable Character Skin and the original Sub-Zero Fatality and Amazon has a Klassic Reptile Playable Character Skin and the original Reptile Fatality.

There's no word yet if these offers will be available in the UK.

As reported last week, a cameo from God of War's Kratos has now been officially confirmed too.

"When we were approached with the opportunity, it was a no-brainer," gushed God of War III director Stig Asmussen. "Fans of both games have been asking for this to happen. Kratos belongs in Mortal Kombat, and I'm thrilled about the potential."
