Miramax founders open video games arm
Anyone for a King's Speech tie-in?
The Weinstein Company, the film studio set up by veteran Hollywood producers and Miramax founders Bob and Harvey Weinstein, has launched a new video games arm.
According to Gamasutra, TWC Games will work with developers on titles based on Weinstein and Dimension Film brands.
The brothers have roped in production company Beefy Media to help build strategic relationships with game publishers. Its president, Adam Boyes, was formerly director of product development for Capcom US.
"With all of the digital platforms, there are so many opportunities to broaden our audience with compelling, high quality, cost-efficient, video game entertainment," commented Bob Weinstein.
"We plan to combine our extensive video game developer relationships with the impressive catalogue of properties to create and produce content made by gamers for gamers," added Boyes.
No specific projects have been announced yet but Dimension franchises includes Scream, Hellraiser, Piranha and Halloween. The Weinstein Company's slate seems rather less game-friendly, focusing on more high-brow fare such as recent Oscar bait The King's Speech, The Fighter and Blue Valentine.
