Sniper Elite V2 announced for 2012
Rebellion developing, 505 publishing.
505 Games and British developer Rebellion have announced Sniper Elite V2, due for release next year.
It's a sequel to the well received Sniper Elite of 2005, plunging once more into the patient boots of a secret agent sniper during World War II.
Actual details on Sniper Elite V2 are scarce. Platforms mentioned are "the current generation of consoles"; there's nothing said about PC.
"Sniper Elite has always been the benchmark of the genre and never been bettered - until now," said 505 MD Ian Howe.
"Guaranteed that the sequel will be the most authentic WWII sniping experience ever – not just in terms of weapon ballistics, but also in delivering the heart-pulsing tension of those do or die moments where one shot really does matter."
Eurogamer awarded Sniper Elite 7/10. All that was missing, we rued, was the budget afforded by a big publisher - both to spruce up presentation and to lavish on marketing.
"Yet what lies beneath its rather unspectacular veneer is a really well designed game that approaches the conflict from a different angle and provides a solid platform for a hugely entertaining game," wrote Eurogamer's then editor Kristan Reed.
