Tomonobu Itagaki's is looking into bringing his next title, third person shooter Devil's Third, to Wii U, the Valhalla Studios boss has revealed.

Speaking in an interview with Japanese site Impress Watch, kindly translated by Andriasang, the former Team Ninja chief explained that he is excited at the prospect of bringing the game to Nintendo's new system, though stopped short of a full confirmation.

It seems Itagaki is a big fan of the just-announced machine. Elsewhere in the interview, he opined that it had clearly been made with the Japanese market in mind.

He argued that the dominance of handheld consoles in the country is partly attributable to the fact that Japanese homes are traditionally very small and don't have room for multiple TVs.

The Wii U's central concept of being able to shift gameplay onto the controller, Itagaki suggested, was a clever way of attempting to revitalise the flagging home console market in Japan.

"I believe it is a good idea," he said.

As for Devil's Third itself, Itagaki revealed that game was 20 to 30 per cent complete and will launch in early 2013.

His team is apparently aiming for 32-player competitive multiplayer but he confirmed that the main campaign will be single player only.

More details are expected to be announced at the Tokyo Game Show in September.
