New Wii loses backwards compatibility
GameCube game and pad support gone.
Nintendo has cut backwards compatibility from the just-announced Wii redesign.
The new-look Wii redesign will no longer support GameCube games or hardware, the company has confirmed.
This means gamers will be unable to use GameCube pads when playing Wii games such as Mario Kart Wii or Smash Bros. Brawl.
Has Nintendo slimmed the Wii simply by chopping off its GameCube controller and memory card slots, currently hidden away under the console's top flap?
Gamers who want the new Wii and still wish to avoid motion controls must upgrade to the Wii's equivalent pad, the Classic Controller.
A Donkey Konga bongos equivalent has yet to be confirmed.
