Game of Thrones MMO is called Seven Kingdoms
Winter is coming.
The Game of Thrones MMO is called Game of Thrones Seven Kingdoms, Bigpoint has announced.
A new trailer for the free-to-play browser-based role-playing game from Battlestar Galactica Online and Drakensang Online developer Bigpoint will premiere at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.
The game is inspired by the hugely popular HBO TV series - not the Geroge R.R. Martin series of novels. It's set within the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, hence its name, and gives players the chance to experience "epic moments" from the show.
Game of Thrones spoilers follow.
Seven Kingdoms begins after the deaths of King Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark (which occur towards the end of the first season). The Starks have declared war on the south and Baratheon's two brothers both make claims to the throne. Players have to form alliances through player versus player combat, siege combat and politics.
The game itself is a collaboration between Bigpoint and Norwegian studio Artplant, which worked on Battlestar Galactica Online. It's using the popular Unity engine to build the game. A beta is planned for later this year.
