World record Portal speedrun completed in 8 minutes
Holey impressive.
The world record time for a Portal speedrun has been demolished by a new attempt that completes the game in just 8 minutes 31.93 seconds.
Levels flash past in seconds - the majority of the video takes place in the lift between testing chambers.
The new "Portal Done Pro-Er" run shaves nearly a minute from the previous "Portal Done Pro" record, set in 2010. Time is calculated from the moment the player first gains crosshairs to the second that GLaDOS is destroyed.
The team then end the video in style, by breaking into a secret area housing the game's ending cake.
The segmented run was completed by SourceRuns members Nick "Z1mb0bw4y" Roth, Josh "Inexistence" Peaker, Nick "Gocnak" Kerns, and Sebastian "Xebaz" Dressler.
"To be SDA legal we have done our run without using scripts/cheats/hacks for any portion of the run," the team stated. "This run first started after the discovery of a new glitch, which snowballed into a whirlwind of discoveries of new tricks, skips, and glitches.
"We started running chambers in April, took a brief hiatus, and then resumed work in late June. The bulk of the run was completed in about two weeks time.
Detailed explanations of each segment and the methods the team used are expanded on in an eye-wateringly thorough Google Document.
