Kinect 2 image outed by "genuine" Durango devkit source
Leak shows off new high-resolution body-mapping.
The first image showing Kinect 2's capabilities has reportedly leaked online by previous Durango devkit source DaE (via Xboxygen).
The next-generation of Microsoft's motion-sensing camera technology apparently offers a much higher-resolution than the current Kinect, with clothing outlines shown in crisp detail.
Depth perception also appears improved, enough to determine individual fingers even when held against the person's body.
Eurogamer cannot verify whether the image is genuine, but we can attest to the fact it comes from someone we know to possess a genuine next-gen Xbox developer kit.
That much was assertained when DaE leaked images of the work-in-progress Durango devkit last month, detailing its Matrix-style startup screen and rough technical specifications.
Multiple industry sources working on next-gen AAA games confirmed to Eurogamer the kit was indeed genuine, however incredible the source sounded.
The Kinect 2 image also tallies with what Eurogamer was told about the device last year: that Microsoft plans to bundle the peripheral with its next Xbox console, and would include improved motion sensing and voice recognition.
So, who exactly is DaE? Scanning his Twitter account (and ignoring the NSFW display picture), he purports to be a vegan from Raleigh, North Carolina who regularly tweets about ordering takeaway pizza.
And he will apparently be wandering around PAX Prime later this month dressed in a t-shirt with his Twitter handle on the back, unless Microsoft's men in suits nab him first.
