Angry Birds Star Wars out next month
"They are not Angry Birds dressed up as Star Wars characters. They are characters in their own right."
Angry Birds Star Wars launches on 8th November 2012 for iOS, Android and PC, Rovio Entertainment has announced.
Only a short teaser trailer, above, has been released so far, but USA Today has more detail.
Apparently the birds and pigs from Angry Birds have personalities from famous Star Wars characters. "They are not Angry Birds dressed up as Star Wars characters," Lucasfilm licensing chief Paul Southern insisted.
"They are characters in their own right.
"They've got personalities which are kind of similar."
Red Bird is Luke Skywalker as an X-Wing pilot in Star Wars: Episode 4. Other birds assume the personalities of Chewbacca, Leia, Han Solo and Obi-Wan. And there will be a pig-esque Darth Vader and pig-esque Stormtroopers.
Good.
"We wanted this to feel like one of the biggest, if not the biggest, entertainment launches of the year," said Rovio's strategic partnerships chief Andrew Stalbow.
The Angry Birds franchise is no stranger to crossovers. It partners with Twentieth Century Fox for Angry Birds Rio, the game based on the animated film.
The Star Wars game will use the gravitational physics from Angry Birds Space and incorporate environments based on Star Wars locations, including Tatooine and Hoth. It'll have the proper Star Wars soundtrack music in there too.
Expect all the Angry Birds Star Wars merchandise the world could ever hope to see about a week before release.
