New HD Mario Kart screenshots revealed
It's arcade game Mario Kart: Arcade Gran Prix DX.
Screenshots of a new HD Mario Kart game have surfaced - not from Nintendo, but from Namco Bandai, developer of the series' arcade outings.
The images are of Mario Kart: Arcade Gran Prix DX for arcade and were spotted lurking on Namco's website by the eagle-eyed NeoGAF. Cabinets are set to appear in Japan this summer.
Mario Kart: Arcade Gran Prix DX will be the third arcade-exclusive entry in Nintendo's long-running racer series. Previous arcade editions have seen Namco characters such as Ms. Pac-Man and Blinky (the ghost) included in their roster.
Nintendo has traditionally not had a hand in the arcade series' development - and have instead kept to an overseer role.
Still, the game is instantly recognisable as Mario Kart. Familiar faces and locations from the Mushroom Kingdom abide.
The series will next appear on Wii U - we'll get our first glimpse at that game during E3, Nintendo has confirmed.
