Sucker Punch announces inFamous: Second Son for PS4
UPDATE: Trailer added. Superpowered insurrection from the Sly Cooper studio.
Update: The trailer has been released, watch it below. It also comes with a plot synopsis with a certain X-Men tinge about it: "Surrounded by a society that fears them, superhumans are ruthlessly hunted down and caged by the Department of Unified Protection. When Delsin Rowe discovers his powers he's forced to run, searching for other superhumans in order to save those he loves from the oppressive D.U.P. now hot on his tail. The choices he makes along the way change the future of everyone around him."
Original story: Nate Fox of Seattle's Sucker Punch studio has taken to the stage at Sony's PlayStation Meeting in New York to introduce the studio's new game, inFamous: Second Son.
Going by a video, the game has a strong anti-authoritarian vibe, but with the familiar art style and dark superhero themes of inFamous. It takes place in a new city and stars a new hero, Deslin Rowe, according to the PlayStation Europe Twitter feed.
Fox began with his favourite story about getting caught up in an anti-globalisation protest in Seattle (he told me this in an interview a few years ago) before rattling off some scary statistics about how monitored we are by our governments in the present day: 4.2 million security cameras in Great Britain, 1000 lifetimes lost queueing in airports in one year, the US Government seizing 1.3 million phone records.
"Our security comes at a high price - our freedom," said Fox. But imagine if you developed superhuman abilities that turned you into a "living, breathing weapon". Would you have the courage to fight for your freedom?
The video - which looked more like a render than actual gameplay - showed an authoritarian state-run city under constant CCTV surveillance suddenly being shaken by a series of explosions. A young hooded man appeared and seemed to have the ability to disintegrate, teleport and reappear, using this to defeat a series of armed guards. Dishonored's Blink skill, anyone?
"I want him alive," said a sinister woman observing a bank of video feeds.
"You are not in control," countered Deslin.
We're guessing Second Son is another open-world action game, but at the moment it's only a guess.
