Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams dev announces "fuel fantasy" co-op game Ravensdale
An up to four-player side-scrolling platform shooter.
Giana Sisters:Twisted Dreams developer Black Forest Games has announced its latest game, Ravensdale, an up to four player co-op focused side-scrolling platform shooter set in a "medieval oil rig city" that's "full of furious orcs armed with motor guns, rocket-propelled goblins and oodles of over-the-top craziness."
"Originally slated to take the form of an action RPG, we pitched the project to publishers around the world, but apparently, 'steampunk doesn't sell,'" Black Forest noted on its official blog. (Though it said that it considered the game more of a "fuel fantasy.")
Instead, the five-person team decided to create a smaller game that focused on co-op action - something it wanted to do with Giana Sisters, but was scrapped as it didn't really fit that game.
"We did want Giana and Maria to brave their nightmares together in an early concept, but multiplayer doesn't play nice with GSTD's central twist mechanic," Black Forest explained. "What we did not want was to squeeze a multiplayer mode into a game where it wouldn't work properly, so Maria got the short end of the stick again."
"With Ravensdale, we now have the opportunity to create a true multiplayer game from scratch, designing the game to fully support cooperative gameplay at its very core," the developer added. "We intend to push the envelope on co-op gameplay, focusing on that aspect like barely any game has ever done before."
Just as Giana Sisters:Twisted Dreams was funded by Kickstarter, Ravensdale will most likely be, too, and Black Forest plainly stated that "it's very likely that you'll see us on Kickstarter in a month or two."
