Gaijin Games releases free browser-based endless runner Commander Video
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, awaaaaaayyy.
Bit.Trip series developer Gaijin Games has released its first free browser game with the endless runner Commander Video.
Starring the Bit.Trip series' protagonist, Commander Video follows the titular hero in an infinite rendition of one of Runner2's 16-bit stages. His move set of jump, slide, block, and bounce from a spring remains unmolested from its commercial counterpart and the catchy tune retains the series' retro vibe, even if it's no longer tethered to the sound effects due to the endless runner's randomised nature.
Throughout Commander Video you'll snag gold bars, which can be used as currency to unlock several secret characters. Telling you who they are would be a spoiler, but as far as I can tell they're just cosmetic swaps.
Gaijin also noted that we should keep an eye out for an "amazing future announcement," suggesting there will be a new game on the horizon.
In the meantime, I'm going to defend my spot in the Commander Video leaderboards. Last I checked, Destructoid's Conrad Zimmerman was only a spot beneath me. This could get ugly.
