Nintendo is working on a brand new franchise
Miyamoto: "I've been pretty busy with this title these days."
Mario and Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto is working on a brand new franchise.
The legendary designer confirmed that he's been "pretty busy" with this mystery title in the latest issue of Famitsu (translated via Kotaku). When asked about the Wii U's upcoming line-up, Miyamoto said, "it's pointless to talk about other features, no matter how fulfilling, without releasing games of our own, so we hope you'll look forward to the games to come. Next spring, with the release of Mario Kart 8, we'll have a general selection available, so I've been thinking it would be a good time to bring out a new franchise."
He then added, "I can't say too much in detail right now, but I've been pretty busy with this title these days."
It's not much to go on, but Nintendo has often been derided for its adherence to its core franchises that have been around for decades (Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Metroid, Star Fox. Need I go on?). The last time it teased a new first-party IP it ended up being the supremely disappointing Wii Music in 2008, though internal team Intelligent Systems created the excellent e-Shop Pullblox (Pushmo in North America) series recently. Hopefully this unknown title will have more of that Pikmin spark and have a name more creative than New Wii U Game By Shigeru Miyamoto. On second thought, I would totally buy that.
