American McGee's Alice: Otherlands Kickstarter successful
Animated shorts in development, movie may follow.
Alice: Madness Returns creator American McGee has successfully Kickstarted his spin-off animation series Alice: Otherlands.
The project completed its funding drive last night with $222,377 (£145k) - a decent wedge higher than its $200k target.
McGee will now oversee the production of a number of animated short films, each focusing on the creations of an historical figure (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea author Jules Verne and Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle have been touted).
Development work on a feature film is also on the cards.
The campaign missed out on its $250k stretch goal to hire Alice voice actress Susie Brann and Cheshire Cat actor Roger Jackson, but McGee added that he hoped some arrangement could still be reached.
Donations to the project are still open via PayPal.
Alice: Otherlands' success was by no means a certainty - earlier in the week it still had almost half its target to go. The campaign also followed McGee's unsuccessful attempt at developing OZombie, a dark Wizard of Oz-themed game, for which Otherlands was at one point a stretch goal.
