Dungeon Defenders 2 ditches MOBA multiplayer
Rebooted as a "true sequel".
Dungeon Defenders 2 developer Trendy has ditched its planned Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) competitive multiplayer.
Studio director Dave Loyd, who joined the team a few months ago, announced the news in a forum post.
"I had some tough decisions to make," he said. "It had been two years since we shipped Dungeon Defenders and many of you began rightfully asking one important question: where is Dungeon Defenders 2?
"Originally it was being developed as a MOBA-style PVP game, but we reviewed the project and decided to turn the ship, refocusing our efforts on a true sequel. I'm happy to announce today that Dungeon Defenders 2 is in development!"
Dungeon Defenders 2 was announced in March 2013 as a free-to-play tower defence role-playing game featuring a cooperative and competitive mode. The co-op mode was described as the "true sequel" to Dungeon Defenders, and was to feature an expanded story and a 24-player overworld.
The competitive mode was a League of Legends-style MOBA experience set in the Dungeon Defenders universe. The idea was five players would defend their towers against the opposing team in classic MOBA style.
Now, Trendy hopes to involve the gaming community in the creation of the rebooted game.
