Twitch removes The Playroom from directory following non-gaming activity

"A majority of it was non-gaming related."

Twitch has removed all channels livestreaming the PS4 app The Playroom from its directory following a glut of non-gaming related content.

Husband and wife call-in program The Spartan Show started a trend of peculiar non-gaming uses for The Playroom.

"We removed Playroom content from the directory because a majority of it was non-gaming related," Twitch said in a statement to Eurogamer. "We will look into adding it back as PS4 owners become more familiar with the games-only focus of Twitch content. In the meantime, you can view all of the amazing gameplay from PS4 broadcasters in this directory page on Twitch."

Twitch announced yesterday that it would be cracking down on non-game related streams of The Playroom. "Non-gaming content is not allowed," Twitch said at the time. Only now it appears that curating it was too big a hassle, so it was more effective to just remove it wholesale.

Previously Twitch streams of The Playroom were used for a call-in show where SCEA developer relations specialist Adam Boyes called in to support this bizarre misuse of the Twitch stream. He called it "pretty rad."
