The Android version of Final Fantasy 6 is out now and costs £11

UPDATE 06/02/14: Square Enix's new mobile version of Final Fantasy 6 is now available on iOS, priced £10.99.
Its launch comes less than a month after the game's arrival on Android - the two versions are largely identical, including the updated character designs.
A universal app, the iOS version also includes iCloud save support so you can continue progress across multiple devices.
ORIGINAL STORY 16/01/14: Final Fantasy 6 - considered by many to be the greatest game in the role-playing series - is out now for Android devices.
It's available from the Google Play Store for, wait for it, £10.99. A high price, but in keeping with previous mobile releases from publisher Square Enix and so doesn't come as much of a surprise.
FF6 is compatible with Android 3.2 and after, although Android 4.0 is recommended.
The 20 year old game has had an... interesting makeover for its Android release, as you can see from the screenshots. Graphics designer Kazuko Shibuya, who has worked on the Final Fantasy series from the very start, supervised the recreation of the game's pixelated graphics, including the crisper characters, which now seem odd set against the retro backgrounds.
The controls have been reworked to make the game playable on touchscreens and the battle interface has been overhauled. Also added is a hint system: Mog will help players who are stuck by telling them what they should do next. The Android version includes the new magicites and events that were introduced in the 2006 remake.
No word yet on an iOS release date, but we imagine it's not far behind.
