Gearbox announces new multiplayer FPS Battleborn
"The most ambitious video game that Gearbox has ever created."
Gearbox has announced its first new IP since Borderlands with the upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter Battleborn.
Revealed by GameInformer as its upcoming cover story, Battleborn is an arena-based shooter being published by 2K Games for a retail release on PS4, Xbox One and PC sometime in the year ending 31st March 2016.
The upcoming shooter will feature both competitive and co-op modes as it pits various archetypes against one another in a fight over the galaxy's last remaining star. According to GameInformer's reveal, Battleborn "takes the minion smashing and fast leveling often associated with MOBAs and injects it into an intergalactic first-person battle arena."
Six character designs can be seen so far which include a hulky space marine, elven huntress, immortal cybernetic samurai, steampunk mechanical man, ornate magic-wielding princess, and a gun-slinging bandit.
Only one gameplay mode has been revealed thus far. Entitled Incursion, it's a five-on-five competitive mode in which players compete in an arena full of NPC minions waging a war. Players begin each round on an even keel, but can rapidly level up to 20 and add customisable abilities as they go.
"As a genre-fused, hobby-grade, co-operative and competitive FPS exploding with eye-popping style and an imaginative universe, Battleborn is the most ambitious video game that Gearbox has ever created," said president of Gearbox Software Randy Pitchford.
