P.T.'s craziest Easter egg translated
"They are here on our Earth."
Kojima Productions' Silent Hills teaser, P.T. is weird. Properly weird. That's in keeping with series tradition, according to Silent Hill aficionado Dan Whitehead. But there's another peculiar tradition P.T. keeps alive: an obscure reference to aliens.
In past Silent Hill games aliens only existed in joke endings that required ridiculously specific criteria to be met - usually involving multiple playthroughs. In P.T., however, there's a Swedish radio broadcast midway through the adventure that suggests a Body Snatchers situation going on. Thankfully, YouTuber SirDaidv Gaming collaborated with fans to get an English subtitled version of this transmission available and, well, here are the results:
Close your eyes.
Let your ears listen in to the radio.
Do you hear my voice?
Can you hear the screams of your own soul?
Let us choose:
My voice, which tells the future,
Or your tormented [struggles?].
Well? What do you choose?
You can choose.
Your life. Your future!
Wise as you are, you may already have noticed.
As the radio drama from 75 years ago was the truth.
They are here on our Earth.
And they oversee and see all.
Don't trust the news.
Don't trust the police.
They are already controlled by them.
So has it been for 75 years now.
Only [our master?] can keep them (at bay).
You have a right.
A right to become one of us.
So welcome to our world.
Very soon, the gates to a new dimension will open.
Ostensibly the "radio drama from 75 years ago" is a reference to Orson Welles' War of the Worlds broadcast in October 1938 (which is closer to 76 years by now, but perhaps not when P.T. was in development). It's unclear if this will tie into the full game of Silent Hills in any substantial way, and presumably - like the silly alien endings - this is simply a goof or added surreal element to make the experience even more unsettling and nightmarish. But as I've stated before, the line between what's real and not in Silent Hill doesn't really matter.
