Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 announced for PC, PS4 and Xbox One
Out first half of 2016.
The Sniper: Ghost Warrior games are popular, and so we have a third one.
CI Games, the company behind the recent Lords of the Fallen, today announced Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 for release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One during the first half of 2016.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 is set in a modern day conflict in Eastern Europe. You play as a sniper caught between three warring factions. CI promises non-linear, sandbox-style gamplay in large open maps. We don't have a video or a screenshot yet, but we do have the image, above.
Steve Hart, former senior producer of Rebellion's Sniper Elite V2, has jumped ship and is working on Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3. Former Marine Paul B. Robinson is also involved.
The Sniper: Ghost Warrior franchise has sold 5.5m copies, CI Games boss Marek Tyminski said. It's the most popular game the company has on its books.
"We're investing a significant amount of effort into the third installment," Tyminski said.
"We're fully committed to creating a AAA franchise that gamers can rely on for the ultimate first-person sniper experience."
Simon Parkin reviewed Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 for Eurogamer, awarding it a six out of 10.
"A game of limited worth, then, less enjoyable than 2012's World War 2-themed Sniper Elite V2, but which demonstrates a developer on an upward trajectory nonetheless," he wrote.
"Now City Interactive has found the money, it needs to find the confidence to strike out with some ideas of its own, else risk a derivative career that diminishes the strengths of its inspiration while accentuating its ever more present weaknesses."
