Gold Mario Amiibo going for £100 each on eBay
Nintendo fans shell out.
Nintendo's limited-edition run of Gold Mario Amiibo figurines are changing hands for up to £100 each via eBay.
The specially-coloured statuettes have so far only been officially sold via Wal-Mart in the US. Reportedly, just 3000 went on sale.
Now the figurines are filtering through to Europe, where their limited supply has seen prices routinely reach into the three figure range.
Apart from its golden sheen, there is nothing to differentiate Gold Mario from his regular Super Mario series cousin.
The toys work with several Wii U and 3DS games, most notably Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8 and Mario Party 10.
Nintendo's Gold Mario variant was first spotted via a website listing on Nintendo.com, before in-store posters at US supermarket giant Wal-Mart revealed that it would be a retailer exclusive.
Mention of a special Silver Mario Amiibo was also spotted, but has so far yet to materialise.
For the moment, it appears as if third-party sellers may be the only option for UK Nintendo fans looking to buy a Gold Mario Amiibo. Nintendo has yet to say if or when the special edition will ever arrive on these shores.
"This a US announcement and we have nothing to announce at present for the European market," a Nintendo UK spokesperson told Eurogamer previously.
Nintendo again reiterated that it had no further information to share.
