This week's free Witcher 3 DLC is...

FINAL UPDATE: New Game Plus mode out now on PC and Xbox One. PS4 by tomorrow.

UPDATE 17/08/2015: The New Game Plus mode for Witcher 3 is rolling out now.

New Game Plus is up on the Xbox Store, weighing in at 9.51MB. Here's the official blurb:

UPDATE: It's available for the PC version, too. Here's the New Game Plus DLC on Steam.

It's not up on the PlayStation Network yet, but it's expected by tomorrow, developer CD Projekt said. We'll update accordingly.

When playing in New Game Plus mode, enemies will be stronger. Player experience, items and alchemy recipes all carry over. Of note: if you're below level 30 when finishing the vanilla game, you will be bumped to level 30 for the start of New Game Plus.

You also get a free Clearing Potion at the start so you can reset your skills and try a different build.

Also of note: items that carry over exclude quest items, books and letters, Gwent cards, usable items and trophies.

When you start a new game plus you can select any difficulty level, and you can obtain the Death March achievement while playing New Game Plus.

UPDATE 28TH JULY: The 16th and final free piece of DLC for The Witcher 3 will be a New Game Plus mode. The developer said it will need longer than a week to ready it but provided no specific release date.

Exactly how the New Game Plus mode will alter the game we will have to wait and see. Presumably it will adjust the levels of enemies, and the areas they're in, so that you will get both challenge and reward when re-starting the game with your campaign-complete Geralt.

UPDATE 22TH JULY: The penultimate piece of free Witcher 3 downloadable content is new finishing moves for hero Geralt. You can only see a head roll or torso severed so many times before becoming indifferent, after all. Oops don't read that, Daily Mail!

But are they fighting... or dancing?

UPDATE 14TH JULY: This week's free Witcher 3 DLC will be the Ciri alternative costume accidentally released to some people last week. Patch 1.07, which took precedent over any DLC last week, still hasn't been released. There was an official tweet acknowledging this, which said when there was any timing to share, fans would know.

UPDATE 6th JULY: There won't be any free DLC this week because the incoming patch, 1.07, took precedent. There's been a little accident, however, resulting in the release of an alternative Ciri costume on PlayStation 4 by mistake.

Eurogamer Twitter follower R3P01012 very helpfully took a picture of the slipped-out content.

Oops!

CD Projekt Red community manager Marcin Momot told me: "This is not supposed to be out this week as it doesn't include the finalised content. We are working together with Sony to resolve this matter."

UPDATE 30TH JUNE: This week there's one item of free DLC, a quest, called Where the Cat and Wolf Play. The animals refer to Witcher schools. Geralt, hero of The Witcher games, belongs to the Wolf school. Who "the Cat" is I don't know, but the accompanying image showing a cat medallion like Geralt's wolf medallion - his Witcher medallion - makes me believe it is another Witcher we'll see. Any ideas?

Who could it pussybly be?

UPDATE 22ND JUNE: This week it's a new monster contract on Skellige, and a Skellige armour set - and very handsome it looks too. [It is out now, 25th June -Edit]

Contract: Skellige's Most Wanted is found in Fyresdal on Ard Skellig, and the Skellige Armor Set is sold by the Kaer Trolde Armorer.

These are the 11th and 12th free pieces of DLC. Four to go.

UPDATE 15TH JUNE: Arriving this week is an alternative look for Triss Merigold, plus a new Scavenger Hunt quest for Wolf School Gear. These are the ninth and 10th pieces of DLC - six more to go.

UPDATE 10TH JUNE: Arriving this week (out now on Xbox One) are a new Ballad Heroes neutral Gwent deck, and a new Fool's Gold quest. These are the seventh and eighth bits of free DLC, from a planned total of 16.

Of the Ballad Heroes Gwent deck, the Xbox Store says: "Make your Gwent Deck legendary! The Ballad Heroes neutral Gwent card set will provide alternative cards capturing characters from Dandelion's ballads in all their glory."

Of the Fool's Gold quest, the Xbox Store says: "Geralt and a village idiot team up to learn the secret of an abandoned village inhabited entirely by pigs."

ORIGINAL STORY 2ND JUNE: There are 16 pieces of free DLC planned for The Witcher 3, plus two big paid expansions further down the line.

So far four bits of DLC - two batches of two - have been released, with a third batch coming later this week. We'll update this article each week with news of what's to come.

Coming later this week is a Nilfgaardian armour set for hero Geralt, and an Elite Crossbow pack. You can buy the Nilfgaardian armour and one of the crossbows - a Nilfgaardian crossbow - from the Baron's Quartermaster in No Man's Land, according to GameSpot, which has had early access to the content.

The Skellige crossbow can apparently be bought from the Skellige Kaer Trolde Castle Blacksmith and the Elven crossbow from the Novigrad Fancy Shop Owner.

So dashing.

Last week a new quest called Missing Miners was added to a Skellige village, and there was an alternate costume for one of the main characters, Yennefer of Vengerberg.

Launched with the game was the Temerian Armor Set for your horse and the Hairstyle Set for Geralt.

The game's first fully-fledged expansion, Heart of Stone, will be released in October.

Yennefer, you're so alternative.
Horse armour!
