Street Fighter 5 reveals Ken with a new 'do
Is "tailor made for rushing the opponent down," says Capcom.
Crimson robed kung-fu master Ken will return in Street Fighter 5, Capcom has confirmed.
Only now he has a new hairdo!
"This is the most in-your-face Ken has ever been, and that's largely down to his new V-Skill and V-Trigger," said Capcom UK's fighting games community manager Matthew Edwards (who used to write about fighting games for us before joining Capcom) on the PlayStation Blog.
One of Ken's most notable V-Skills is the Quick Step that lets the character rush forward and combo into additional moves. It's a cancelable maneuver that's key for closing distances.
His new V-Trigger move, Heat Rush, turns the character on fire when you burn through the entire V-Gauge. "It won't last forever, but if you can break your opponent's defence while it's still active, the ensuing combo will incinerate a large chunk of their health," Edwards explained. "It's also the perfect fuel for an epic comeback."
Ultimately, Ken is a more aggressive version than his ivory clad counterpart Ryu. "They may've been trained by the same master, but Ryu and Ken have always walked a very different path," Edwards noted. "The former hits hard with concreted blows while the latter strikes quick and often. This gap has gotten even wider in Street Fighter 5, and with the Quick Step and Heat Rush backing him up, Ken is tailor made for rushing the opponent down. Consider that fair warning."
Check out how Ken looks in action in his debut trailer below. Street Fighter 5 will be out next year exclusively on PS4 and PC.
