Amazon Underground makes hundreds of F2P Android games actually free
Devs profit based on per-minute user engagement, not in-app purchases.
Amazon is giving away over $10k in apps and in-app purchases as part of a new service entitled Amazon Underground.
The apps will be fully free, meaning all of their usual in-app purchases are also free. How does this work, you ask? Here's Amazon's explanation in its own words:
"We've made this possible by working out a new business model with app and game developers: we're paying them a certain amount on a per-minute played basis in exchange for them waiving their normal in-app fees."
You'll have to download these games through the Amazon Underground app, which you can claim here. (The reason you can't get it through Google Play is because Google won't allow apps that contain other full apps within them.)
Amazon clarified that this is a "long-term program" and not simple a timed promotion. "Over time we'll continue to invent and add more benefits to Underground," the company stated.
Titles included in Amazon Underground include: Goat Simulator, Threes, Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, DuckTales: Remastered, Badland, Anomaly 2, Angry Birds Slingshot Stella and more. You can check out the full list here.
