Deadly Premonition developer Swery taking health-related break
"I'm already slow enough at making games as it is..."
Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro, the brain behind bizarre survival horror Deadly Premonition, has announced a temporary break from games development.
Swery announced he is taking time away from games to focus on recovering from reactive hypoglycemia, a condition where blood sugar levels can become dangerously low.
"Hi everyone. Unfortunately, I have some bad news for you all," Swery explained in a new blog post. "Starting today, I will be taking a short break from game development, in order to focus on recovering from reactive hypoglycemia.
"I'm already slow enough at making games as it is, and I feel like all I ever do is make my fans wait... But I've decided that I need to take a rest here, so that I can hopefully continue to make games in the future.
Swery's latest project was the Xbox One and PC adventure game D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die. Typically, it was also bizarre.
However, despite good reviews, D4 failed to become the cult classic hit Deadly Premonition became. By all accounts, sales were slow. The game was then given away for free via Microsoft's Games with Gold programme and ported to PC.
Swery and his studio Access Games are yet to announce another project.
"I'll keep checking my SNS accounts as much as I can, so I hope to keep seeing you all here whenever I return. So do not get mad if I go #DrinKING," Swery concluded.
"When I recover from my illness, I'm going to do my best to make games that are better and more awesome than ever before!"
