Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3 announced
Watch the super cool cinematic trailer. For the Emperor!
The nods and winks are over: Sega and Relic Entertainment have announced the game we all knew was coming: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3.
We dont have any gameplay or screenshots, but according to the official blurb, Dawn of War 3 sees players lead elite hero units and big armies with massive units.
Here's executive producer Stephen MacDonald:
"This is the Dawn of War that fans have been waiting for. Our biggest units ever? Check. Giant orbital lasers? Check. Base-building, epic heroes, huge battles, it's all in there. Get ready for the biggest Dawn of War yet. For the Emperor!"
It sounds like the first Dawn of War, which feature traditional RTS elements such as base-building, combined with the second Dawn of War, which ditched the base-building in favour of micro-management of powerful units. Best of both worlds, perhaps.
The rousing announcement trailer features the Space Marines, Eldar and Orks, so those races will no doubt be playable. Here's hoping for the Dark Eldar!
Dawn of War 3's announcement comes seven years after the release of Dawn of War 2, although Relic has continued to support the real-time strategy series with expansions and patches.
Dawn of War 2 was published by previous Relic-owner THQ. After THQ went bust, Sega picked up the studio and the licensing rights to Dawn of War. Relic released Company of Heroes 2 and a raft of expansions, but Dawn of War 3 is its first main game produced entirely as a Sega-owned studio.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3 is due out on PC in 2017.
