UPDATE 04/08/2016 11.11pm: The first gameplay from the Prey reboot has been revealed in the following trailer from QuakeCon:
ORIGINAL STORY 04/08/2016 06.17pm: Arkane Studios' Prey reboot has been shrouded in mystery, but creative director Raphael Colantonio has untangled a few tidbits about how this sci-fi adventure will work in the following video:
One of the most revealing details is the structure of the game, which sounds like it will have more in common with Samus Aran's adventures than those of the original linear Prey.
"The space station can be explored in a continuous way," Colantonio says. "This is not mission to mission to mission. Everything is continuous. You can always come back to where you were before. The context may have changed. And you can also visit it outside in zero-G and go from different airlocks to different airlocks and find shortcuts."
Colantonio also pointed out that there's a type of creature that can mimic a desk chair and if you look very closely you'll see a coffee cup form from the same shadowy black mist.
"They evolve. There's a full ecology. Each of them have a purpose and it's only later that you really understand exactly how they all come together," the developer teased of its alien AI. "One thing about them though is that they have some really interesting powers and you can learn them."
Indeed, there is a BioShock-esque animation where the player character's hands become enshrouded in an onyx cloud. Perhaps you'll be able to transform into unassuming office supplies as well?
Prey is due next year for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
