World of Warcraft: Legion day-one sales match series records
It's not gone down the Draenor yet!
World of Warcraft: Legion sales are in and the sixth expansion has done well - really well.
Day-one sales were 3.3m, announced Blizzard, which matches what expansions Warlords of Draenor and Cataclysm achieved on their debuts.
What's more, the amount of players playing WOW together during Legion launch week rose to its highest point since the launch of Cataclysm all those years ago. Life in the old dog yet, eh?
Incidentally, Blizzard didn't say anything about World of Warcraft subscriber numbers because it doesn't talk about those any more.
Nearly 12 years down the line, Legion shows that WOW can still be a volcano of activity. But the real test will come in a month or two when we see how many people stick around. Cataclysm suffered in this regard, and Warlords of Draenor did, too.
Blizzard of course hopes that features like the Artifact weapons, with their upgrade paths, will keep people around, as will the literal sea of new content in the new zone Broken Isles. Blizzard is also preparing major content patch 7.1, dubbed Return to Karazhan, which re-imagines one of WOW's famous old raids.
Oli is playing WOW Legion for us and hopes to be able to share his thoughts soon. But in the meantime there are some nice stories cropping up, such as the one about Legion's elaborate secrets and world boss Kosumoth the Hungering.
