Cross-game chat in PlayStation Plus?

Sony denies it was mentioned.

While most of Sony's announcements yesterday were similar from region to region, one of its European websites claimed that the fabled cross-game chat feature would be part of the PlayStation Plus offering.

The quote rolling around the internet is, "Cross-game Voice Chat: Invite your friends to chat online no matter what game you're all playing, even if they aren't members of PlayStation Plus." The idea would be that you only needed one subscriber per four cross-game voice-chatters.

However, Sony has told Eurogamer that this was "not part of the press release" and wouldn't be drawn on whether or not cross-game chat will be part of the PlayStation Plus platform, which will cost €14.99 for 90 days or €49.99 for an annual subscription.

Cross-game chat has been rumoured for a long time and part of Sony's firmware development pipeline for just as long, to the best of our knowledge.

If the news was supposed to come out yesterday but was then pulled from press releases, it seems reasonable to speculate that Sony has yet to make up its mind about whether to charge for it.

One thing we do know about PS Plus, however, is that if you sign up for a year's membership between 29th June and 3rd August you'll get a free downloadable version of LittleBigPlanet.
