15 games later, Rovio announces Angry Birds 2
3bn downloads and counting.
Angry Birds developer Rovio Games has announced Angry Birds 2.
The sequel will be fully revealed at a special event on 28th July and then be made available to download on the 30th.
Details on the game are scarce. Rovio has only said that it will be "bigger, badder and birdier" than the first.
Angry Birds 2, possibly the least accurate game title ever conceived, will be at least the 15th game in the series - and that's not counting the various console ports and free versions.
There was the original Angry Birds, then Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Friends, Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds Star Wars, Angry Birds Star Wars 2, Angry Birds Transformers, Angry Birds Go!, Angry Birds Epic, Angry Birds Fight!, Angry Birds Stella, Angry Birds Stella Pop!, Bad Piggies and the upcoming Angry Birds Under Pigstruction.
The series has earned itself more than 3bn downloads, and has spawned all manner of toys and merchandise.
A CG animated film is due to be released next year featuring the voice talents of Peter Dinklage, among many others. A range of Angry Birds Lego is also in production.
