Activision indefinitely postpones Xbox One version of The Amazing Spider-Man 2
UPDATE: Microsoft involved in an effort to secure release.
UPDATE 16.00pm: Activision has confirmed the postponement of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Xbox One to Eurogamer but said it will collaborate with Microsoft "in an effort to release" the title at some point.
There's still no reason for the delay - and whether the game will actually release at all still seems in doubt.
“We are working with Microsoft in an effort to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game on Xbox One," an Activision spokesperson told us. "Currently, the game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and the PC on 2nd May, 2014 as previously announced."
ORIGINAL STORY 11.45am: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 publisher Activision has indefinitely delayed the game's Xbox One version just weeks from release.
Activision has yet to fully explain the move, first noticed by GamersHonestTruth, which came to light after reports that pre-orders for the Xbox One version had been cancelled by Australian retailer EB Games.
But the issue doesn't appear to be limited to Australia - NeoGAF noticed that all references to the Xbox One version had been quietly removed from the game's international official site.
A subsequent statement from Activision to UK-based MCV suggests that the issue will affect us here, too.
"We want to inform you that we are revising our release plans for ASM2 on Xbox One," a spokesperson for the publisher stated. "When and whether ASM2 is released on Xbox One is TBD."
We've pressed Activision UK for more details on what's exactly going on.
In the meantime, the game is still due for 3DS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360. It swings into the UK on 2nd May.
