Call of Duty publisher Activision has ousted the owners of www.ModernWarfare3.com after a long-running legal battle.

The unofficial site had previously caused commotion by mocking the Modern Warfare series and redirecting visitors to rival shooter Battlefield 3's site.

Activision previously submitted an 11-page complaint form to the National Arbitration Forum, pleading its case for ownership.

The three-member NAF panel has now ordered the domain name transferred, reports Fusible.

ModernWarfare3.com now loads a blank 404 error page.

Meanwhile, ModernWarfare4.com remains online. It's another site long home to domain squatters that derides Activision and hosts pro-Battlefield propaganda.

A FAQ on the site explains the owners do not wish to "ransom" money from Activision - the site is simply online "for opportunistic giggles".

"They could extradite me to the USA," the site reads, "I could do with a holiday."
