Afro Samurai 2: Episode One arrives on PS4 and PC this month
Xbox One version to follow.
Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma will debut its first of three episodes on PS4 and PC come 22nd September, publisher Versus Evil has announced.
Producer Lance James added on the PlayStation Blog that PS4 players will save 20 per cent on the full game if they buy the Trilogy bundle that will eventually contain all three episodes. PS Plus members will save an additional 10 per cent.
This latest spin-off of Takashi Okazaki's manga follows the exploits of Kuma, a cybernetic samurai donning a creepy teddy bear mask. Once Afro's best friend Jino, this peculiar character now blames Afro for the death of his family and has sworn revenge against the series' leading man.
James described Afro Samurai 2 as "a third-person combat game on steroids, with a bit of Tomb Raider-type exploration in it, and a whole lot of hack and slash fighting with visceral, bloody finishing moves."
This sequel marks the console debut of Redacted Studios, a company formed by former Bandai Namco producer David Robinson.
Series creator Okazaki handled the still images for Afro Samurai 2's manga inspired cut scenes. "It's been many years since Okazaki-san has completed some new Afro images and the fans are going to love it!" said James.
The RZA remained on board as the series music director, though it sounds like he was in more of a producer role this time around and other artists did the actual compositions.
Afro Samurai 2 will come to Xbox One at a later date.
