Amplitude Studios unveils "historical strategy magnum opus" Humankind

Out next year.

Amplitude Studios, the developer behind Endless Space and Endless Legend, has unveiled "historical strategy magnum opus" Humankind.

Humankind is a historical turn-based strategy game, in the 4X mould, tasking players with leading their civilisation from the Neolithic era to the modern age.

Over 60 different historical cultures, each with their own "special gameplay layer", are represented, including the likes of the Ancient Egyptians, the Romans, the Vikings, and the Khmers. The twist is that you're able to combine cultures as your game progresses, fashioning your own civilisation from the building blocks of the past.

There are real historical events to experience, scientific discoveries to make, and wonders of the world to visit, and it's given an additional tactical layer through features like terrain elevation, which influences everything from the security of your city to your effectiveness in battle.

"Choose the high ground for your city, and it will be harder to siege," explains Amplitude, "Deploy your archers in the woods to avoid stampeding horsemen. Call upon your allies to help you in times of need and transform an epic battle into a full-scale multiplayer world war!"

Humankind is out on currently unspecified platforms some time next year.
