Snowflake season dates in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Snowflake season in New Horizons lasts from the first layer of snow till it finally melts at the beginnings of spring, with the exact timing of this season depending on which hemisphere your island sits in.

In the northern hemisphere, snowflake season will run from December 11th to February 24th.

In the southern hemisphere, however, snowflake seasons run from June 11th to August 24th.

Throughout this season you'll be able to find snowflakes floating around your island, exactly like maple leaves and cherry blossom petals do during their dedicated seasons, and you'll be able to collect DIY recipes for the snowflake set.

Since both snowflakes and their DIY recipes can only be found during snowflake season, you need to play New Horizons during this time period if you want to collect them both.

Snowflake season is also the only time when you can build Snowboys in New Horizons, which is definitely worth doing.

How to find snowflakes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Snowflakes can be found floating around your island in New Horizons and, just like maple leaves and cherry blossom petals, you can capture them in your net.

When a snowflake is nearby you might also be able to hear a faint twinkling noise, which will help you track the snowflake down and add it to your collection.

Just remember to be careful when catching snowflakes, as, again like the other floating seasonal materials, snowflakes will vanish if you run into them or miss too many times with your net.

There's also a Nook Miles Plus task which will reward you with at least 200 Nook Miles points for collecting three Snowflakes.

Thankfully, snowflakes will be around for a couple months, giving you more than enough time to collect this seasonal material.

How to find large snowflakes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

There are, in fact, two types of snowflakes in New Horizons - snowflakes and large snowflakes.

Unlike the regular kind of snowflakes, large snowflakes can't be found floating around your island.

Instead, you need to make a perfect Snowboy and, once you've done so, they'll give you a large snowflake as a reward. The perfect Snowboy will then continue to give you a large snowflake for every four days of its existence.

Snowflake and large snowflake prices in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you're in need of Bells in New Horizons, then you can sell both snowflakes and large snowflakes to Nook's Cranny.

Snowflakes can be sold for 200 Bells each, while large snowflakes are sold for an impressive 2,500 Bells each.

Animal Crossing snowflake DIY recipe list: How many are there?

There are seven DIY recipes which are crafted using regular snowflakes in New Horizons. It's important to note that these recipes are different from the frozen furniture set, which requires large snowflakes, as these can only be found by making perfect Snowboys.

Thankfully, the snowflake DIY recipes can be found in presents held by balloons of any colour, which means that you can happily pop any balloon in the knowledge that you might receive a new DIY recipe.

Tips for finding snowflake DIY recipes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Although the snowflake DIY recipes can be found throughout the majority of winter in New Horizons, you may want to find them earlier if you want to have a winter-themed house.

To help you in this endeavour, we've put together a list of balloon popping tips to help you complete your snowflake DIY collection:

• Balloons spawn in minutes ending with a '4' or '9'. This means that balloons will spawn at times like 3:44pn or 9:09am, but, since it may take them a while to reach your island, you may have to wait an extra minute.
• The direction the balloons fly in depends on the time of day. If you're playing New Horizons during the day, then the balloons will fly from the west to east side of your island, but, at night, this direction is reversed, so expect to see them from the east.
• Watch where you pop the balloons! Popping a balloon over water, a large patch of flowers or one of the rocks lining your island's shore will result in the present being destroyed, taking whatever prize it held with it.
• Have the camera in rolling mode. You'll have a greater view of the sky when the camera is in rolling mode, which is great for spotting in-coming balloons.

• Listen to the wind. You'll be able to hear a whistling, wind-like, sound whenever a balloon is nearby.
• Bring multiple slingshots. Every tool in New Horizons breaks at some point, so you're going to need multiple slingshots if you're planning on hunting down all of the snowflake DIY recipes. It will also help prevent you from missing any balloons, as they will vanish if you enter a building, like Nook's Cranny.
