APB Vendetta to be a PC and PS4 persistent online "extreme mobility" shooter, not scooter
That's if Reloaded's Kickstarter pitch for $300,000 works.
APB was an ambitious MMO built by Crackdown dev Realtime Worlds but it flopped, hard. The game died but was resurrected by Reloaded as a free-to-play MMO. We reviewed APB Reloaded last year and it wasn't very good.
Now there's a new persistent online APB game on the cards called APB Vendetta, not Vienetta, made by Reloaded, and it's targeting PC and PS4.
But it's not funded yet. This is a Kickstarter pitch for $300,000.
"APB Vendetta is a character-driven extreme mobility competitive shooter inspired by the APB Reloaded universe, built on an entirely new high-agility game system featuring extreme movement mechanics, melee combat, dual-wield weapons, character-specific finishing moves, a fighting-game ethos, customizable private servers, modding tools and an upgraded game engine using the latest (2013) version of Unreal 3."
Got that? There's lots more detail on the APB Vendetta Kickstarter page.
It's a game you buy and then play. It's not free-to-play. But there are optional monthly server rental costs.
A prototype is running but Reloaded needs those extra funds, and the PR vindication of a successful Kickstarter campaign - and the public feedback that it brings - to finish the project off.
The PS4 version of the game is actually a stretch goal. It's a long-term dream that requires funding and maybe an engine change if Unreal Engine 3 doesn't support PS4 and the team have to move to UE4.
APB Reloaded will live on unscathed by this Kickstarter drive, whether it's successful or not. APB Reloaded may even benefit from the development of APB Vendetta if the Kickstarter is successful.
With 33 days to go, the team has raised $12,000.
