Apex Legends datamines not a "source of truth", warns Respawn
Hemlocking the stable door.
If Reddit is to be believed - a very big if - it would seem Apex Legends has really lost the element of surprise. Over the past few weeks several leaks and datamines have dug up information on the game, the most recent including images of an upcoming L-Star weapon and character models of 10 supposedly upcoming legends.
According to Respawn, however, players should not treat any of this information "as a source of truth".
"There's stuff in there that is very old, or things we've tried in the past and cut - remember our design process is to prototype and play lots of ideas - and some of it may be things we're still building for Apex Legends," Respawn's community manager stated on Reddit.
"Finding this stuff by no means confirms that it'll ever come out. At best you should treat any posts about this as a rumour and the real info will come from us when we're ready to show off what's coming next."
One leak that seems to have come true, at least, is news the latest legend will be Octane. Yesterday several Origin users reported seeing a banner advertising the season 1 battle pass briefly appear on the storefront, with the text reporting this would cost 950 Apex coins (equating to about £8).
The banner only appeared for a short while before being removed - but the background image containing Octane remains available to view on Origin's assets.
Despite the "unintentional update about season 1 on Origin", Respawn also squashed rumours the season would be starting that same day. Details of the battle pass and new legend will apparently be revealed "very soon".
So while the datamine about upcoming legends is exciting, it's worth noting these images could be early prototypes or placeholders, and the finished item may look completely different. But it sure is fun to dream. Dibs on playing Crypto!
