Hot news just in is that Rebellion, the Oxford based developer behind Aliens vs Predator and the forthcoming team-based action adventure game Gunlok, have purchased cult sci-fi comic book 2000AD. The deal gives them the rights to make games based on the company's characters and settings, including of course the famous "Judge Dredd".

"I am only too happy to confess that I have been an avid 2000AD reader since Prog 1", Rebellion co-founder Jason Kingsley says in the press release announcing the deal. "However, that doesn't mean that this deal was done for sentimental reasons. 2000AD is not only a goldmine of intellectual properties, it is also a hugely enjoyable read. We are looking forward to helping this top quality publication to achieve its fullest potential."

Word is that the creative flow will work both ways - not only will Rebellion be able to use any of 2000AD's 700 characters (including the Dreddster) in their games, but 2000AD may also publish stories based on Gunlok and other Rebellion games in future. Rebellion also now own the rights to license Judge Dredd and other characters on for use in movies, action figures, and whatever else catches their fancy. For the full story, read the press release. Remember, you heard it here first!
