Sword broken .. again
Revolution to wheel out third installment in popular adventure game series
York-based developer Revolution have confirmed rumours that they are working on a new game in the popular Broken Sword series. Subtitled "The Sleeping Dragon", Broken Sword 3 will be available on Xbox and PlayStation 2 as well as the PC, and is expected to be available some time next year. Revolution are promising to live up to their name with the new game, which they say will "take adventure gaming to the next level".
"Whilst we're immensely proud of the previous two games, we felt that we had taken the point and click adventure as far as technology would allow", according to managing director Charles Cecil. "We have been experimenting with the next-generation development systems and now have a clear vision, both technically and creatively, as to how to bring the series bang up to date, with a new look and new style of play - but the same high production values upon which we have built our reputation."
Exact details are few and far between at this stage, but what we do know is that the design document and draft script are already done, and that George Stobbart and Nico will both be returning in the new game, "though they will have matured in both characterisation and appearance". The game will also feature a fully 3D world to explore, with exotic new locations to explore and a mixture of stealth, combat and puzzle solving elements. Given how well this worked in Revolution's last game, In Cold Blood, we are certainly looking forward to what they can do with a true 3D world and the power of the next generation consoles. We should know more within the next month or two, so stay tuned!
