The next Counter-Strike update will introduce riot shields, and FAMAS and Galil guns, according to Valve Software. It is thought that the inclusion of riot shields (which will appear in single player CS spin-off Condition Zero) is a controlled test to see how they work in a multiplayer environment. While many are complaining at this potentially awkward inclusion, there will be limits to its functionality, and frankly anything which spices up the rather worn out CS formula at this late stage is to be welcomed.

Alongside the next Counter-Strike update there will be a Team Fortress Classic patch to boot. This will include a teleportation pad for the Engineer class and a new map from Valve called Ravelin.

Updates for both games will also include various fixes and tweaks.
