Terra Lycos has published a chart listing the most-searched-for toys in the world by their popularity. Although there's no information on how many searches were made for each item, they all took place during the last month, and the listing is nonetheless quite interesting.

In at number one is the PlayStation 2, so no surprises there, but in at two (ahead of Barbie and those detestable Yu-Gi-Oh! cards which my nephew is not getting) is Xbox. Further down the list, GameCube comes in at five, and GBA makes the list at 12, although the likes of Lego, Transformers, Zoids, Hot Wheels and Hello Kitty all made it higher.

Whether this tells us anything about the consoles' likely success during the festive period is difficult to say, but it's quite telling that the three home consoles are ordered as their hardware and software product lines have performed sales-wise most recently. The GBA on the other hand continues to sell apace, but by all accounts the games don't, which perhaps explains its peculiar position.

Finally, we noticed that Grand Theft Auto is number four in Lycos overall top 50 searches for the week ending November 9th, beating out the likes of Harry Potter, Britney Spears and, ahem, The Bible.

You can find the list and a lot of Lycos' other charts at 50.lycos.com.
