X-Men get RPG treatment
Late 2003 console release for X-Men Legends
The long rumoured X-Men RPG has finally come to fruition, with the Raven-developed X-Men Legends likely to emerge pre Christmas on PS2, Xbox and GameCube, via Activision.
Featuring 19 of your favourite mutants across the past 40 years, the game is reportedly is similar to Baldur's Gate, with the one/two player game a team based action/strategy affair, with players able to pick four characters to duke it out in simultaneous combat. Players will be able to switch characters at their leisure, with a "team style combo system" allowing for "extra powerful abilities".
The game centres around the obscure character Magma, and players get to pick from the likes of Iceman, Gambit, Forge, Beast, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Colossus, Psylocke, Nightcrawler, Angel, and seven more.
Expect a combat heavy romp through "totally destructible" environments, including the Mansion, Department H, Muir Island, and the Danger Room, with the usual assortment of objects, and PRG style experience point upgrades allowing players to enhance the team's abilities.
Script writing duties have fallen to Marvel writers, including Joey Casey, Steven Seagle, Joe Kelly, and Duncan Rouleau, which is nice. More info when Activision gets around to trivialities like actually announcing it.
