Eidos' Italian Job details
Based on the remake - d'oh!
As we found out last Friday thanks to Eidos chairman John van Kuffeler's address in his company's earnings report, the UK-based publisher has secured a deal to make a game of The Italian Job. Terrifyingly, however, it is to be based on the dreaded Paramount remake starring Marky Mark.
How did this happen? We're not sure, but Climax will be doing the honours on the development end, with the game set for PS2, Xbox and GameCube this summer. No doubt to coincide with the movie.
We didn't actually know much about the remake until we read this press release, so here's what we have: The Italian Job is about mastermind thief Charlie Croker (Mark Wahlberg), who pulls off a gold bullion heist (whilst in the body of a far more charismatic and entertaining Englishman) in Venice, Italy [eh? -Ed], only to be double-crossed by one of his crew, Steve (Edward Norton). Seeking revenge, Charlie recruits safe-cracker Stella (Charlize Theron) and together with his former gang they follow Steve to California where they aim to re-steal the bullion by causing havoc on the streets of LA.
Described by Eidos as "a contemporary remake of Paramount's 1969 classic by the same name," and by virtually everyone else as "the worst idea since Greedo shooting first," the film will be packed with Minis, modern special effects, "state-of-the-art" car chases and directed by F. Gary Gray of The Negotiator fame. Other actors involved include Seth Green and Donald Sutherland.
We don't have any screenshots of the game at the moment, but we'll let you know when we do. Well, actually, we have renders and such, but we wouldn't insult you with them, would we now?
